Statement by IFL President Andrew Langer on Sen. Chris Dodd's "Financial Reform" proposal:

"Once again the Democrats in Congress have seen fit to try and ram through a massive piece of legislation that will fundamentally change a major sector of the economy, while once again totally failing to address the underlying problems that gave rise to their claimed crisis.  Just as their so-called "health care reform" legislation doesn't fix the systemic problems with the nation's access to health care, while bailing out major corporations, the Dodd bill effectively enshrines "crony capitalism" without dealing with the government-run entities that cut our economy down at the knees.  This bill is fundamentally flawed.  It enriches lawyers, takes power away from everyday American shareholders, destroys private property rights, and perpetuates an illusion that it fixes the nation's financial system.  Americans cannot, and will not, stand for yet another "big lie" from the administration and its allies in Congress!"
