Reiterates Peaceful Nature of Movement
Washington, DC—Following the dastardly attack on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) today, Andrew Langer, President of the Institute for Liberty and a leader in the Tea Party Movement issued the following statement:
“The Institute for Liberty condemns, in the strongest manner possible, the attack today on Representative Giffords. Though our organization has had sharp disagreements with the congresswoman on a variety of issues, we have always advocated for people to voice their concerns through dialogue or phone calls or through electronic means, and ultimately the people always have the ballot box at their disposal. We cannot and will not tolerate violent acts.
“The Tea Party movement, though at times angry, has nevertheless been remarkably free from incidents of violence or rampant destruction that have plagued other social movements, both here in America and abroad. This has been one of the movement’s greatest strengths, and in order for this movement to continue to succeed, that tenet must remain.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Congresswoman Giffords, her husband, and her entire family.”
